Jonathan Trejo-MathysIt is with deep sadness that we announce the death of one of our members,Jonathan Trejo-Mathys. Jonathan, whose work was in both political philosophy and critical social theory, was assistant professor of philosophy at Boston College. He had been a Fulbright Scholar, studying under the supervision of Axel Honneth at the Goethe University of Frankfurt in 2006-7, before receiving his PhD in 2009 from Northwestern University under the supervision of Cristina Lafont. He was also a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Justitia Amplificata Centre for Advanced Studies in Frankfurt in 2010-11. Jonathan has published on discourse theory and political obligation, a normative critique of the WTO, and on issues of recognition. An edited collection on Domination and Global Political Justice, compiled with two of his fellow Global Justice Network members and former Justitia Amplificata postdocs, Barbara Buckinx and Tim Waligore, is forthcoming in 2015.

Jonathan was a passionate and rigorous thinker, a dedicated teacher, a loving husband and father, and a devout Christian. He is survived by his wife Maggie and two daughters, Maya and Micaela. Jonathan was born on August 4, 1979, and died in Boston, on November 28th. He valiantly fought colon cancer. Hopefully, his contribution to developing clinical drugs will have a lasting impact for families in the future. He was a wonderful friend and colleague and we will miss him terribly.

A memorial service will be held at Saint Ignatius Loyola Church, Boston College, on December 6 at 10 am.
